Beginning her career in public television managing behind the scene on-air
fundraising events and volunteer corps, Nelson was soon recruited to serve as
Manager of Marketing for the Detroit Transportation Corporation. There she oversaw
the company’s public events, marketing, advertising and sales as well as training for
front line employees. In 1996, Nelson joined the management team
Upbeat, a Detroit DMC established in 1977. There she served as Vice President,
of the newly created Corporate Division.
Responsible for the sales and operations of corporate and incentive programs, Nelson also managed the company’s large independent staff of guides, bilingual interpreters and corporate event planners. In 2000, Nelson purchased the company under the name of Planit Detroit. In 2004, Nelson established Planit Michigan, adopting the name to better reflect the broader spectrum of locations served.
